Compare Satellite TV: Why is Satellite TV the better choice?

Share

The satellite TV comparisons against cable TV have long been settled by the growing number of satellite TV enthusiasts in the US. Although cable TV providers still hold by far the largest share in the consumer pie, Dish Network and Direct TV are already starting to gnaw away portions of this since optimizing their businesses in the 1990s. With the continued advancement and technological breakthroughs happening in the industry today, it is likely the satellite providers will soon take over cable TV leaders as king in TV broadcasting.

Why is Satellite TV the better choice?

Satellite TV service is obviously the cheaper, wiser choice in watching television. Direct TV and Dish Network’s basic satellite TV packages start at $29.99 and $24.99 respectively. These satellite TV deals include all-digital channels of more than 120 channels. Their more aggressive packages include more sports, more movies and kid’s channels which cost only $10 to $50 more. Premium channels costs only $10 to $15. Their basic packages already include free satellite TV dish and receivers (of the latest technology), free installation, etc., etc.

There are only a few details that define one from the other: that’s cost and programming. Direct TV has a bit wider selection when it comes to sports-TV viewing; whereas Dish Network offers more family-time TV with its myriad of family-oriented programming. Some of Dish Network’s packages also cost a few bucks cheaper than Direct TV's packages but it’s always the viewing preferences of the subs that finally determines which provider is better for their households.

Why is Cable TV not?

Cable TV service uses cable lines in providing television programs for their subscribers. This is apparently their strength as well as their weakness. Cable lines cannot go as far as the satellite technology could go. That is why cable companies (like Comcast and Time Warner Cable) are bounded physically by their infrastructure.

Cable TV providers are however, slowly shifting to the digital age to compete in the marketplace. They have been upgrading their systems so that they may also deliver hundreds of digital channels to their subscribers. The downside however, is that the end-users are burdened with heavy costs whenever they avail of this service. Cable companies are selling digital cable by bundling it with their other products like voice and high-speed internet.
