Can My Satellite TV Interfere with the Wi-Fi Signal?
All things being equal, the simple answer to this question is that it can’t. Not that it’s impossible, but it is highly improbable for the 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency used in most wi-fi modems to mess up the 12GHz frequency used by your satellite TV receiver.
There are some folks who experience signal disruptions when their satellite receivers are placed near a wireless cable modem or a wi-fi router. For this reason, they blame the bad TV signal to the modem. In case you experience the same dilemma, here are some tips to help you solve this mystery:
Try turning off your cable modem and then power cycle your satellite receiver. This will reset the configuration running inside your receiver. This should be enough to fix any signal disruption caused by other device.
If this works, you may want to change the location of your modem far away from your satellite box. Although the 2 components operate on different frequencies, any radio signal transmitted near your satellite TV receiver may feed it with some bogus signals. This may cause the bad output that you see in your TV.
If the power cycle does not work while your modem is off, check other possible sources.
Check for power lines or fallen branches that may somehow block the satellite signal from your dish.
It may also be a case of a loosed satellite dish.
If you have a multi-room receiver and with more than one satellite dish, check if you don’t have a misaligned dish.
Another possible scenario would be loosed or damaged connection within your satellite TV system.
If everything checks out and you still experience bad TV signals, the problem may be within your satellite TV receiver. Call your satellite TV provider to help you resolve this issue.
