YES Network, FSN Northwest and Direct TV Take Viewers ‘Deep’ With First-Ever 3D MLB Telecast
Direct TV, together with YES Network and FSN Northwest, will be marking another first in the history of sports broadcasting with their first 3D Major League Baseball broadcast of the New York Yankees versus the Seattle Mariners game on July 10 and 11, 2010. Panasonic will be one of the primary sponsors, aside from Direct TV.
The historic broadcast from the Safeco Field in Seattle will be available to all Direct’s HD customers in all of the New York states and Connecticut, North and Central New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania which are within the YES Network’s footprint. The games will also be aired live in the entire states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and in parts of Montana and Idaho which are within the FSN Northwest footprint. The game telecast on July 10 begins at 10PM ET and at 4PM ET on the next day. These networks will produce their traditional HD telecast for both games.
CEO Ray Hopkins of YES Network says that working with Direct TV will show commitment to the viewers, especially in providing new technologies and of course, in delivering the Yankees brand to the people. At the same time, it also strengthens its leadership position in the market.
Eric Shanks, EVP of Entertainment for Direct TV is also proud to team up with YES to bring a different perspective to the satellite TV provider’s viewers when they watch live baseball in 3D. This will add customer approval to their satellite TV deals.
Starting June, HD customers of Direct TV will receive a free software upgrade in order to gain access to Direct TV’s dedicated 3D channels. This will include N3D powered by Panasonic, ESPN 3D, a 3D Direct TV Cinema channel and a 3D Direct TV on Demand channel.
