Winter Olympic Coverage Unavailable to Some Homeschoolers -- Dish Network Might be Needed
With the 21st Winter Olympics in full swing, as always, homeschool teachers will be taking every bit of opportunity to instill the ethics, hard work and discipline long lauded in every Olympic sport-
… well, except this 2010, home lesson plans are going to have to be reworked. Rights of full broadcast of the XXI Olympic Winter Games are only limited to the service providers AT&T Uverse, Comcast, Cox, Direct TV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable and Verizon Fios.
Homeschool students – or just about anyone without a cable or satellite TV account with any of these service providers won’t be watching these games. Most homeschool households, in order to curtail expenses, forgo television subscriptions.
Students can still access the internet and watch posted clips, pictures and highlights of fan favorites like the Hannah Kearney competing at moguls or J.R. Celski winning the Bronze at short track; however, anyone wanting live Olympic coverage should have valid account with any of the mentioned providers.
There is no workaround to this issue. Any public library’s free WiFi system will also not have access to the live Winter Olympic coverage.
The closest possible solution but that requires payment is Dish Network’s $24 packages. Most cable TV rates are twice that already.
