Ukraine launches Eco-TV, the country's first environmental satellite TV channel. As the name suggests, Eco-TV dedicates this humanitarian effort to world ecology and its preservation.

Previously, Eco-TV spearheaded a project that develops an innovative way of recycling components found in television screens. They turn them into ceramic floor tiles.

Now, they are dedicating efforts for an environmental satellite TV channel. Eco-TV was scheduled to be launched last March 1, 2010. 

Broadcast for satellite TV, Eco TV will mainly focus on the coverage of problems related to the environment (e.g.  'environmental protection, safeguarding natural resources, energy saving, waste collection, sorting, transportation and procession') as reported in an Eco-TV press-service.  Eco TV will broadcast among popular satellite TV channel list 24-hours a day.

Eco-TV’s programming will include Eco News, Business Success, World Economies Expo News, Eco Test, among many others. But they will also be allotting 10% of their broadcast time airing their own production. The station had been testing Satellite TV broadcasts since mid of January.

What’s behind Environmental TV?
European Eco TV project is an innovative way of recycling electronic wastes from TV and PC screens and turning them into materials such as ceramic floor tiles. 

Over the last few years, flat screens and plasma displays have increased in popularity which gradually replaced cathode ray tube (CRT) TV and computer monitors in households and businesses.

This technological shift has led to major environmental concerns. As one United Nations University study found recently, electronic waste is set to rise from 10.3 to 12.3 million tonnes per year from 2005 to 2020 within the EU 27.   Thereby having researchers embark on a project such as the Eco TV to recycle highly polluting electronic waste materials (e.g. lead, barium and strontium) putting them into use and helping prevent massive spread of landfills.
