HSN2 Premieres this August on Dish Network
Home Shopping Network, abbreviated as HSN, returns after a three year hiatus to present HSN2, a companion channel that will air on DISH Network starting August 1, 2010.
For home shoppers, this means another cool shopping option for satellite TV deals that will do away with the need to go outdoors to shop this summer.
HSN2 will be airing mostly repackaged, taped footage of the live satellite TV offers and product ads that have aired on the other HSN channel, which is a live around the clock network feed. And unlike the other HSN channel which is on high definition, HSN2 will be on standard definition that costs only a fraction as much to air.
Looping recorded programming is a big advantage in e-commerce.
“One audience could be customers who miss our live programs because they are doing something else,” says John McDevitt, HSN VP of Advanced Services. “Another audience could be sent there from the (main feed) to see a more in-depth selection than what we're showing live”.
Another advantage HSN2 will have over its live counterpart is that satellite TV deals can be grouped and broadcasted by category, unlike live shows where celebrity hosts can only pitch their own brands.
