Dish Network Shares Climb Despite Court Loss to TiVo
March 5, 2010 – Collin Stewart analyst Thomas Eagan upgraded Dish Network shares from “Hold” to “Buy” with a price target of $30. This was right after Dish Network’s court appeals loss to TiVo last Thursday, March 4, in their long-standing squabble over DVR patents.
Eagan says that the current price of Dish Network stocks already reflects the negative impact of the recent court ruling against the company.
Dish Network shares have traded at $8.79 to $22.18 the past 52 weeks.
TiVo’s recent court victory over Dish Network on the Digital Voice Recorder (DVR) patent infringement had been a big struggle for the satellite TV provider. Eagan says however, that investors should be relieved that it had passed this hurdle and that Dish will be getting better.
The March 4 ruling will allow TiVo to claim in licensing fees a range of $2.50-$3.50 per box each month and could negotiate up to $3.5-$4.00. The analyst expects that the financial impact will be light since Dish Network holds a huge pool of subscribers. In addition, Dish Network had also increased its subscriber count by 500k, more than any other TV provider in the United States.
Dish Network, which is based in Englewood, Colorado, plans to appeal the court decision. The Best Dish Network and Direct TV offers are:
