Direct TV to sell local ads for the first time
Direct TV, the largest satellite TV operator in the United States, announces a partnership with NCC Media, an advertising sales firm owned by cable operators Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable Inc. and Cox Communications Inc.
NCC Media has represented nearly all American cable TV business, including Verizon Communications Inc. a few years back. DirecTV is NCC Media’s first satellite TV client.
This will be the first time DirecTV will have access to local advertising markets. Previously, the company could only sell nationwide ads, with satellite TV streaming the same commercial to every market. With NCC Media’s partnership, DirecTV can selectively broadcast commercials along with their satellite TV deals to their respective geographic locations. That means DirecTV will be able to sell spots to advertisers who would want their commercials to air only in certain cities and districts.
“This is a powerful and exciting partnership”, says Bob Riordan, DirecTV Senior VP of Advertising Sales. “[This will] combine DirecTV’s technological prowess in delivering nationally targeted advanced television services with NCC’s experienced leadership in spot sales.”
