Direct TV and Versus Reaches Resolution After A Year of Blackout

March 15, 2010, Direct TV signs a contract with Versus to return the sports network to Direct TV's channel lineup. This was after nearly a year of blackout, following a failed carriage agreement with its parent company Comcast last Sept. 1, 2009.

“We're excited that we were able to come to a fair agreement in time for our busy spring programming schedule,” said Jamie Davis, President of Versus. “We look forward to super-serving these fans with NHL regular-season and playoff coverage, our first live UFC event and much more”.

Versus is the exclusive home of the National Hockey League (NHL), U.S. home of the Tour de France, and recently, home to World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The channel was dropped off DirecTV’s list when no resolution was reached and the contract expired at midnight on Sept. 1, 2009.

Following that was Versus September 4 national newspaper ads that ran “Worthless: That's what Direct TV thinks of the sports you love”. It also urges Direct TV customers to switch providers.

However, WEC ratings did suffer a noticeable loss in viewers after Versus’ separation from Direct TV. WEC 47 event drew only 370,000 viewers, as reported by MMAjunkie.com. WEC had affirmed that a resolution with Direct TV will be made.

Now, Versus will air UFC events for Direct TV.

The first one, UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones will air live this coming Sunday, March 21 from Broomfield, Colorado. This event will be the promotion’s debut on Versus.
