According to some research, broadband-connected homes in the US who prefer using online sources for online videos over cable or satellite subscription are declining.
Sports fanatics can watch the latest college basketball games on satellite TV. Regional Sports Networks brings ESPN Full Court (which covers the entire regular season) and the NCAA March Madness (covers the tournament) to millions of basketball sports aficionados. Both programs are offered by the two largest satellite TV providers in the United States: Dish Network and Direct TV.
According to various sources, Google has been experimenting with their search software on TV set-top boxes that enables media contents to be transmitted via internet. Google is said to be working with Dish Network Satellite TV on this digital set-top boxes project.
March 15, 2010, Direct TV signs a contract with Versus to return the sports network to Direct TV's channel lineup. This was after nearly a year of blackout, following a failed carriage agreement with its parent company Comcast last Sept. 1, 2009.
Last March 10, 2010, Dish Network and EchoStar appeals to their patent infringement case against TiVo regarding the Digital Voice Recorder. They have sought approval to redesign their device around the technological patent claimed off by TiVo.
