How to Burn video files from a Dish Network DVR to DVD?

Share

You can conveniently skip commercials, pause live programs and record a bunch of shows with Dish Network’s DVR. You’ve probably compiled several seasons already of your favorite TV series with this device. At some point however, you will have to transfer the video files out of your DVR to continue recording shows. And the best way to store your collections is by burning them into DVDs.

To do this, you will need a PC with a DVD burner or a DVD recorder, an HDMI/ component/ composite cable, a blank recordable DVD and a reliable DVD copy software.

Here’s what you do if your computer has a DVD burner.

  • Install a video capture, video editing and DVD burning software into your PC. The only way (as of now) to save Dish Network DVR videos is to have a video capture running in the background, i.e. ADS Video Xpress, and later on a video editing software to remove the sections you want out, such as commercial breaks, and a DVD burning software to burn the files to DVD
  • Connect your computer to your DVR's output using an HDMI or composite cables so that the video output will appear on your computer’s screen. HDMI cables give you the best quality transfer; RCA component cables are next best thing while composite cables give the lowest quality.
  • Play the DVR and record the video using ADS Video Xpress, after which you can begin editing the output using a DVD authoring software.
  • Place the blank DVD into the DVD burner and begin burning the video files.

Here’s what you do if you’ll be using a DVD recorder.

  • Connect the DVD recorder to your DVR and make sure that its output is connected to the DVD recorder's input.
  • Load the disc to your DVD recorder to prepare the video file transfer as above.
  • Record the video in your DVD recorder as you play it from the DVR. You can turn the TV on so you can also see it.
