Can I watch digital channels on my computer using Dish Network’s DVR?

Share

The answer is yes. You can definitely enjoy digital channels with Dish Network’s DVR or any of its satellite receivers using your computer. Depending on the applicable Satellite TV package, you can pause, record and rewind live programs with the DVR on your computer. You need an HDMI port or a tuner card and a coaxial cable to do this.

Here’s how:

  • Find the cable connecting the PC monitor and the CPU of your computer. Connect it to the video card output port which could be a VGA, DVI or HDMI. If your computer has only one video output and you need to use this (other than for watching TV), buy a video card with DVI or HDMI output. If ever you would buy a new video card, install its software first by running the CD in your PC.
  • Connect your PC to Dish’s satellite receiver using an HDMI cable. Connect one end of the cable to the coaxial port on the back of the TV tuner and the other end to the port "Coax Out" or "Sat Out" on the back of the receiver.
  • Configure your computer’s new output display. Go to Control Panel, Display then Settings. The computer will list the screen resolutions supported by your new HDMI TV. If you’re using the HDMI TV as the second monitor, you need to set it as it is used by Windows. Follow the instruction of your video card to do this.
  • Restart your computer to effect the changes.
