Q: What is DIRECTV?
A: DIRECTV is a satellite entertainment service provider. Using advanced satellite technology, Direct TV is able to offer more than 225 channels of programming to homes and businesses that have the necessary receiving equipment - a small satellite dish, a digital set-top receiver and a remote control.

Q: How much will DIRECTV® service cost me each month?
A: Basic TOTAL CHOICE® with Local Channels programming package, which includes over 125 channels, is just $39.99 per month. The cost to "mirror" that service to additional receivers in your home is $4.99/mo. If your state charges a sales tax, that will be added to your bill as well. Premium packages and packages that offer more channels are, of course, more expensive.

Q: Where can I purchase a DIRECTV® System?
A: It's easy to buy now at DIRECTV.com! You can also purchase from an online retailer, or from a local dealer

Q: What is the DIRECTV® DVR?
A: It's a new DIRECTV receiver that combines the DIRECTV® programming service and digital video recording service in one integrated product.

Q: What is DIRECTV® DVR with service?
A: TiVo® is an easy-to-use service available that can digitally record and store up to 35 hours of television programming without videotape. You just have to Tell it once, and it will automatically record your favorite shows every time they air on DIRECTV.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: The DIRECTV DVR includes a digital set-top receiver, a mini satellite dish antenna with a dual-output LNB and a universal remote control. The receiver with remote control will also be sold without a dish antenna for customers who already have DIRECTV service. **put link to retailer’s page.

Q: Can I install a DirecTV dish myself?
A: Yes, you can use the installation manuals but professional installation is especially recommended with DirecTV Multi-Satellite dishes, due to their critical pointing and more complicated wiring requirements.

Q: Can I hook up multiple TVs to one DirecTV receiver or do I need one receiver for each TV in the house?
A: Yes. You can watch multiple TVs from a single DirecTV receiver. But you do have to watch the same channel and you will also lose the stereo sound.

Q: How do I get free professional installation for my DirecTV System?
A: Some retailers will give you a package deal where your installation is included. Usually you will need to sign up for 12 months of service to get a free installation.

Q: Can I install a DirecTV dish indoors?
A: Yes. The dish can be positioned indoors, pointing through most glass windows, if the setting offers a clear view of the southern sky.

Q: I have another satellite service. How do I convert to the DIRECTV® service?
A: Direct TV advises new customers to use DIRECTV equipment only. DIRECTV hardware has been designed to meet our service quality standards. Please visit a retailer for more advice.

Q: If I move, can I take the receiving equipment with me?
A: Yes, as long as you move within the continental United States. If you move to Alaska or Hawaii you may need new receiving equipment. Also if you commit to 12 months of any TOTAL CHOICE® programming package DirecTV will send you a free satellite dish and provide standard professional installation of your satellite dish and your existing receivers at your new home.

Q: Why does DirecTV require an access card?
A: The access card acts as a "pass key" for your system, giving you access to the DirecTV digital highway.

Q: Can I get HDTV with any DirecTV System?
A: Yes, but in order to receive HDTV broadcasts, you need a slightly larger 18" x 24" oval DirecTV Multi-Satellite dish as well as a special receiver that decodes HDTV signals.

Q: Do I have to connect my receiver to my phone line?
A: The system uses the phone line to transmit programming purchase information like pay-per-view movies, special season sports programming and other shows from the receiver to DirecTV. You can choose not to connect your receiver to your phone line but an extra charge of $5 will be apply on every phone order.

Q: What about Adult Programming?
A: Yes, DirecTV offer adult channels like PLAYBOY TV with an added monthly fee.

Q: How does the DirecTV Interactive service work?
A: The service works through special programs and commercials on selected DirecTV channels. You'll know a program is enhanced when you see an "I" symbol on your screen. The program will also deliver additional entertainment and electronic shopping services.

Q: Can I get Internet access from DIRECTV?
A: For those without a land-based phone connection, DIRECWAY® satellite-based Internet service is offered through HUGHES. You can also get Internet content on your TV with some of Direct TV’s advanced products.

Q: Are there parental controls?
A: Yes. Direct TV’s built-in "Locks and Limits" feature allows parents set rating and spending limits on DIRECTV programming.

Q: Can weather interfere with my reception?
A: Television reception on the system is mostly reliable. DIRECTV® service is only minimally affected by weather, under extreme conditions.

Q: Is DIRECTV service available in Mexico or Canada?
A: Direct TV is legally prohibited from transmitting a signal outside the US.

Q: Is DIRECTV service available in Alaska?
A: DIRECTV does offer programming in Alaska. However, because of Alaska's location in relation to our satellites, you may need a larger satellite dish.

Q: Is DIRECTV service available in Hawaii?
A: Yes, Hawaii residents can enjoy select DIRECTV® programming.
